In 1995 we were in Oak Park, Chicago. We enquired where we might get a coffee and a lady whispered, full of awe and reverence, that a Starbucks had opened. Frank Lloyd Wright eat your heart out, there’s no competing with a Starbucks. We were impressed, so much so that we wished our own post-industrial little home town could ever aspire to such sophistication. Well. I suppose it was over 30 years ago so I can forgive myself.
You think that's bad?? Let me tell you a little old anecdote about something that happened to a friend of mine aka myself. This would have been a couple of years back when Trump was talking about transforming Gaza into Las Vegas meets Disneyland Orlando. Remember? The YouTube videos of fabulous scantily clad belly dancers - not a burkha for a hundred miles; casinos, bars, the whole nine yards worth of Sodom n Gomorrah. Fabulous! just Fabulous!
So anyway, there's my friend and a friend of hers in the outside swimming pool, discussing Trump's vision and my friend says, " well why not? Why the fyck should the USA be the the big tit that the Palestinians suck on? Why shouldn't he invest mucho $$$$ and make a deal?" And that's when the pool maintenance guy, chap in his early thirties, who's been eavesdropping on this PRIVATE conversation between two consulting adults well past pensionable age, leans over and in gushed tones advises my friend tgat she shouldn't really discuss things like that in public.
At which point my friend who is a mouthy bitch who's never lost for words says," Tell you what. When you're contributing to my salary, you can tell me what I can and cant talk about."
Wonder of wonders after first saying that he's "only" trying to "keep her safe", he apologises.
Well, if I had lost a few stone you could have blown me down with a feather.
Waugh, Waugh, Waugh
That's a conformity approved trumpet.
If you believe it.
Great work

David Lloyd Acton Park, where woke is spoke.
Your writing is wonderful! And like a fine wine, it gets even better with the third or fourth perusal!
