In 1979, sensing an outbreak of mad-hatter ideas, follies and fancies, British scientists captured the last wisps of an elixir known as ‘common sense’ and concealed that beguiling compound in a glass vial. They buried it in a secret laboratory burrowed in the bowels of London.

This week, that vial cracked open. For the first time in decades, Great Britain is enduring her first outbreak of common sense.

Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party and the all-but-certain next prime minister revealed the answer to a question beguiling the nation: What is a woman?
