Please send Andrew Tate the mushroom, the world would be a far, far better place without his Witless outpourings.....I am a voracious reader, and it saddens me that my boys, like my husband, do not enjoy reading. Sigh. They like being read to, I am the woman of a thousand voices, after all....but do not pick up a book. Eldest reads the bible. That's it. We dislike Tate the Tit for other reasons - his constant dissing of karate....well, Tit, those who can, do and those who can't, diss....😂 I've never read Swift, must remedy that.

You'd enjoy 'A Modest Proposal.' Around 30 pages. A fricassee or a ragout... 😅

I'll look out for it 😂

The little people are all different, eh? Mine loved being read to; it literally made bedtime worth it. Both learned to read early on, then... Laddie went his own way.... (Whilst dining with another couple, mother of our children complained about young lad reading under the bed clothes with a flashlight after lights out; response from other couple, "That's a problem?") Next gen (one each, again); being read to the pinnacle of all goodness but different. Some things lassie goes off and reads on her own; others she prefers being read. Laddie 2.0 too seen to tell. Way, way too long to suggest that where there is joy at being read to the fire may light. I cannot imagine how non readers imagine.

Second the mushroom for Mr Tate. Be well.

Me either.....although my youngest non reader has a vivid imagination and excelled at creative writing in primary school, maybe being read to helped? Maybe it's the connection with words that makes the difference. Take care 😚

Ha! One of the problems of employing satire is that it can be missed. (And you don't get laid. :) ) Personally, I prefer reading to about everything, but I have noticed that many of the successful people I have met in life, don't like to read. And they've got masters degrees and have attended Stanford. One of the problems of words is that they are second hand and define reality rather than explore it. Action is immersion. Something to be said for that.

Forgive my pedantry -- it was the Hutus who wielded the machetes

"By neglecting to read, one fails to follow thoughts to their conclusion. And fails to create new thoughts. "

Mr. Gage - Not just reading. In order to effectuate nuanced ideas, I suggest people also need to write - something I consider to be a failure of our current thought leaders. I tried my hand making this argument here: https://open.substack.com/pub/joelelorentzen/p/writing-as-congressional-therapy?r=1p5p1m&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Please take comfort, though. Satire works. Your reason to exist is safe!
